Past Events

Our first 6-8 honor band was held in Dodge Center at Triton High School. Our guest conductor, Dr. Douglas Orzolek, led 78 students from 15 schools through a day of musical learning and growth.

Comments from a participating director:

  • "I was very glad to have an Honor Band that was not in the Twin Cities and closer to my part of Minnesota."
  • "I thought there was a nice balance of styles of music, and the level of difficulty was appropriate for kids this age."
  • "I thought Doug did an outstanding job. He provided lots of positive feedback, as well as areas that needed improvement. He has excellent rapport with kids this age."

Our guest conductor wrote:
"I especially appreciated the time that the SEMBDA directors spent with the students in the sectionals. It was very helpful and, more importantly, it’s good for the students to meet other teachers who reinforce what their teachers have been telling them."
