Brock Duncan ~ Benson

Brock Duncan is currently in his 18th year as the band director at Benson High School. Mr. Duncans duties include directing two concert bands, two jazz bands, percussion ensemble and teaching individual lessons. In addition, Mr. Duncan spends his summers directing the Benson High School Marching Band.

Duncan is a member and past conductor of the Prairie Winds Concert Band, a community band based in Willmar, MN.

Duncan is a graduate of Apple Valley High School and St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He is and active adjudicator and is a member of MBDA, Phi Betu Mu, and MMEA where has served as a region representative and All-State trombone and low brass section coach.

Brock and his wife Anne live in Benson and have three children.

Lee Varpness ~ Montevideo

Lee Varpness has been teaching instrumental music since 1985 in Minnesota schools. He is presently completing his 14th year teaching middle school band (grade 6-8) at Montevideo Middle School, Montevideo, Minnesota. Previous to Montevideo, Lee directed bands at Beardsley/Browns Valley Schools, Browns Valley, Minnesota, and Pelican Rapids Public School, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He also is completing his 15th year as low brass instructor at the University of Minnesota, Morris. He received his bachelor degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris in instrumental music.

In his current position at Montevideo, Lee has three middle school bands, two middle school jazz bands, teaches small group lessons to students in grades 6-8, serves as assistant director to the senior high marching band, and teaches summer band lessons to middle school students during the month of June.

Lee is involved in MENC, MMEA, and MBDA. He is actively involved in the Montevideo Area Community Band, area church choirs, performs in various area instrument groups, and serves as an adjudicator at small group contests.

John Ginocchio ~ Southwest Minnesota State University

John is the Director of Bands at Southwest Minnesota State University. He directs all bands at SMSU and teaches instrumental music education classes; conducting; Popular Music; and low brass lessons. Prior to coming to SMSU John taught for ten years in northeast Indiana and for three years as a doctoral assistant at Ball State University. He holds degrees from Ball State University (DA, MM) and Indiana University (BME).
