Volunteer Opportunities.

The Minnesota Band Directors Association relies upon its members to become involved in the activities and events of the organization. Below are several ways in which you can become involved in MBDA for the coming year. Some involve more time than others, but all are important to the overall success of the organization. Please make the time to identify at least one way in which you can volunteer to help MBDA.

Volunteer Opportunities

Select each opportunity you wish to volunteer for. Adjudicators are responsible for scoring each individual recording for the whole section during the month of January 2010. Volunteers will be contacted by the 6-8 Audition chair.

This committee will work closely with Audition Chair in selecting personnel for the 6-8 Honor Band. Committee members will also be asked in assisting in distributing mailings. Committee members will be contacted by the Audition Chair.

The 6-8 Percussion coordinator will act as the percussion section coach, and will also serve as a laison between the percussion section and the conductor. The 6-8 MBDA Honor Band will take place on April 17-18, 2010 at Marshall, MN. The percussion coordinator will also assist the site host in arranging percussion instruments prior to rehearsals. Percussion coordinators will be contacted by the Honor Band Event coordinator. The Percussion coordinator will receive a stipend of $100.

6-8 section coaches will be available to attend all rehearsals and lead a sectional at the State Honor Band April 17-18,2010 at Marshall High School in Marshall, MN. Section coaches will be contacted by the Honor Band Event Coordinator. Section coaches will receive a stipend of $50.

This committee will work closely with the Honor Band Event Chair in assisting with set up, tear down, and other logistical details regarding the Honor Band Weekend. Committee members will be contacted by the Honor Band Event Chair.

The 9-10 MBDA Honor Band will take place on April 17-18, 2010 at Marshall High School in Marshall, MN. The percussion coordinator will also assist the site host in arranging percussion instruments prior to rehearsals. Percussion coordinators will be contacted by the Honor Band Event coordinator. The Percussion coordinator will receive a stipend of $100.

9-10 Section coaches must be available to attend all rehearsals and lead one sectional for the MBDA State Honor Band weekend, April 17-18, 2010 at Marshall High School in Marshall, MN. Section coaches will be contacted by the Honor Band Event Coordinator. Section coaches will receive a stipend of $50.

Site hosts are needed to host Beginning Band Festivals and Second Year Festivals in all regions of Minnesota. Hosts would be responsible for lining up guest conductors, securing rehearsal and performance spaces, and acting as the overall facilitator for the half-day event. BBF/SYF events take place either the first or second Saturday in May. Site hosts will be contacted by each Region President.

Future sites are needed to host the 6-8/9-10 MBDA State Honor Band. Sites must be able to accomodate 2 simultaneous rehearsal spaces, several rooms for sectionals, one performance space with 500+ seats, as well as facilities for informal meals. Hosts would be responsible for securing rehearsal and performance spaces, and acting as the overall facilitator for the two day event. The 6-8/9-10 Honor Band takes place annually in Mid April. Prospective Site Hosts will be contacted by the MBDA President.

Volunteers are needed to represent MBDA at the MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic. MBDA members will be asked to work a 2 hour shift with an MBDA Board member on Thursday or Friday. Workers will be contacted by the MBDA Past President.
